Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapist and Washington State and AAMFT-Approved Supervisor
Rachel Hughes is a licensed marriage and family therapist who has been practicing for over ten years in inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings. She specializes in life transitions, trauma, improving parenting skills, and transitions in caregivers in foster care or adoptions. One of Rachel’s particular passions and areas of expertise is supporting families through medical issues, whichever family member is diagnosed. Rachel enjoys working with all families on improving communication and general functioning, as well as individually with tweens and teenagers to young adults as they transition to adulthood or struggle with a broad range of emotional struggles. Rachel is a strong advocate for collaborating with parents, schools, and medical professionals in the client’s treatment team to improve the continuity of care. She uses a strength-focused and family-centered approach that creates a plan that fits with the family’s needs to help them achieve their goals.
Rachel also provides state licensure supervision for mental health professionals, supervision for individuals pursuing a Child Mental Health Specialist certification in the state of Washington, and AAMFT-approved supervision required for professionals pursuing their LMFT. Her supervision style is collaborative and clinician-centered. Her goal is to empower clinicians to develop in their preferred modality with a focus on identifying self-of-the-therapist reactions that may impede the therapeutic process.
